Over the past 10 days I have met some amazing people in Calgary. Last night we had a small gathering at Spencer’s amazing house overlooking the city.

I am still waiting for the night-time images of my installation with the projections. I will post these images as soon as I can so you can get the real feeling of my installation.

Please check back soon!!

On wednesday and thursday, Dominique, Jennifer and I built our installations at the Olympic Plaza. The three projects are located adjacent to each other, so the public could easily pass view all the projects together.

As for my installation…my thoughts…

I bought over 2000 feet of rope and weaved together a small “projection” screen between two trees. The trees are along 7th Avenue (see images below). The intention of the installation was to create a projection screen out of rope, and at night project images of the c-train station across the street. Though mainly a night-time installation – some people seemed to like looking at the weaving patterns during the day time.

The process of making the rope screen was fun and interesting at the same time. Interesting because every 30 seconds, someone walking-by would ask me what I was making. It seemed as most people were confused by what I was making. I got easily over 100 people asking me question, some taking pictures of me while I worked; all in all a fun experience, and had great conversations with people interested in what I was doing and sharing thoughts about art & architecture.

For now I have posted some images I took during the construction phase, but I will post images that others took as soon as I get them. A professional photographer Rebecca, took images of the entire process – I will upload those images as soon as receive them.

Dominique Cheng (Toronto) and Jennifer Thorogood (Montreal) are the two other finalist of the ArtCity peepshow installations. We worked closely during the past week. All three installations are adjacent to each other. We had a great week together – shared some great food, conversations and laughs.

On Thursday evening the three of us sat on a panel discussion with three other ArtCity artists. I didn;t take any pictures, but I will post at a later date a link where you can see the whole discussion. the ArtCity website will be posting all the lectures and talks online within the coming weeks.

Below I have posted a series of images from the construction and completion of the Dom’s and Jen’s installation. Both fantastic projects!!

I will post more and better shots in the coming days, so check back. These are just a teaser…

Okay…I finally have internet so I can finally do some posts…

1. Glenbow

I installed two mixed media works at the entrance of the Glenbow Museum. Below I have posted some images – the first couple are in my apartment while I was working on them, and the remaining images are of the installation and finally the final look.

The images were created as I was thinking about the public installation I did in the Olympic Plaza.

The works are based on a repetition and mirroring patterns. The image of the left is done on linen, and the other is on canvas.

So…I just came back from a meeting with the two other architecture competitors, and we are gong to start building our installations tomorrow morning. Check back and you can follow the construction and final installation of all three projects on this page.

We are also doing a panel discussion at the Glenbow Museum on Thursday evening at 7:30pm.

I had the priviledge to spend a couple days with Norwegian/ Finnish architect Sami Rintala, his wife and ArtCity organizer Matt Zess. Sunday we went to Banff + Lake Louise, and Monday evening Mr. Rintala gave the keynote lecture for ArtCity.

A few pictures of Banff…
